Thank you for joining our webinar!
Please find here the Q&A of our session:

Are the features discussed available for the on-prem version, or only for the cloud (SaaS) version?

All features are available with any deployment option, the exception being Admin UI (Exasol SaaS already has it’s own GUI for administrative tasks).

When will the new Admin UI be available and in which v8 release?

Exasol 2025.1 is set to release end of June 2025.

How does the feature set of Admin UI and Exa Operations differ?

Admin UI is a complete new user interface built from scratch. It will cover some of the existing features of ExaOperations and implement new ones as well. In the beginning not all previous features will be covered but we will be focusing on what administrators need on a daily basis.

Is the gpu performance improvement only available to UDFs that use GPUs or to general (non-udf) SQL queries?

In the first release only UDFs will benefit from GPU support. Future iterations will accelerate also standard SQL operations such as joins. We are aiming to provide full support in 2026.

Is JavaScript support planned for UDF scripts?

JavaScript is currently not planned as a supported scripting language, however demand for new languages is evaluated on an ongoing basis.

When will the parquet bulk loader be available?

The Parquet Loader will be available with Exasol 2025.1 which is set to release end of June 2025.

Regarding the virtual schema from SnowFlake/DataBricks; are there any limitations on the number of tables? I have previously read (GitHub) that there are maximum 50 tables per virtual schema

This limitation is currently still in place and may be lifted in future releases.

Could you touch on the license requirement when accessing data from a data lake. Currently it’s data size based.

This question might address two different use cases:

  • if data is accessed via virtual schemas then this doesn’t affect licensing as data is kept at the lake and queries are pushed down, with all the implications like slower query performance and query costs on data lake side.

  • Exasol is also providing a new Lakehouse Turbo functionality, here data is going to be replicated on demand into Exasol. This will only be available in our SaaS offer as a first iteration which is priced based on consumption.

Does Exasol have plans to participate in the TPC-DS?

Evaluating performance is a major concern for us. However, for the TPC benchmark to be meaningful, results have to be audited. It is currently not planned to participate in an audited run of TPC-DS.

To see more on how we test, have a look at this blog from our CTO.

Can you please describe how these new features will be priced / packaged? Are they included in existing contracts? Thanks!

All features except for TextAI are included in the existing contracts. For TextAI we are currently in early access phase and would like to work with interested customers.

Due to the political situation, does Exasol plan to offer Exa-Cloud, again?

We are partnering with souvereign private cloud providers like IONOS, Exoscale and others to deliver a fully managed hosted solution “made in Europe”. Alternatively, we are able to host customers by ourselves upon request.
