Exasol On-Premise on virtual machines

Hi.

I would like to know if Exasol On-Premise licensed version can be installed on virtual machines.

If there an option to imitate nodes with virtual machines? Or to set single-node database with one virtual machine?

Thank you, Inna.

Hi @InnaRafikova ,

as far as installing / using Exasol on virtual machines is concerned there are no restrictions as far as I know, the vm´s will "behave" like classical hardware but keep in mind that
things that are not possible on physical hardware ( for example VMotions or similar ) are not supported ( see link below ).

You can install from the ISO and if you set up your network accordingly you are good to go.

Maybe take a look here: https://www.exasol.com/support/browse/SOL-476?src=confmacro

Cheers,
Malte

Hi Inna,

you can run the very same configurations you have on prem with virtual machines. We have an Exacademy course where you install a 2+1 cluster on VMs during hands-on labs: https://exacademy.exasol.com/courses/course-v1:Exasol+ONPREMISES+X/about

Or check this article to get an idea how that works: https://uhesse.com/2018/10/12/installing-an-exasol-6-1-cluster-on-virtualbox/

Best regards

Uwe
