as far as installing / using Exasol on virtual machines is concerned there are no restrictions as far as I know, the vm´s will "behave" like classical hardware but keep in mind that
things that are not possible on physical hardware ( for example VMotions or similar ) are not supported ( see link below ).
You can install from the ISO and if you set up your network accordingly you are good to go.
