Does Exasol 7.0.7 support new M6i instances

BenBauer

Hey,

AWS recently made M6i instances available: https://aws.amazon.com/de/ec2/instance-types/m6i/

As they provide a better price performance ratio we would obviously like to upgrade from our current M5 instances.

We are currently running Exasol 7.0.7. Is there a timeline when Exasol supports the new instances types or should it work out of the box?

Hey,

i can confirm what @BenBauer wrote below.

Using an M6i instance family would throw an UnsupportedOperation Error with an "The instance configuration for this AWS Marketplace product is not supported" error with the current Exasol AWS Marketplace images.

We will test and enable this instance family within the next Exasol AWS release (which will be roughly in about one or two months).

Hey BenBauer,

I don't think out-of-the-box will be on the menu, I've always used this as a reference on what is supported (i.e. classes not selectable in advanced config are probably not supported/going to work):

https://cloudtools.exasol.com

If you try to switch to something Exasol does not support you'll probably end up with this message:

https://community.exasol.com/t5/discussion-forum/100gb-s-vs-25gb-s-make-a-difference/m-p/6400/highli...

As for when the m6i will be supported: I'd like to know that too - probably exa will get back to us through this post.

Cheers,
Malte

Hey, any update or estimate when it will be supported?

@BenBauer the new instance types are now available under

https://cloudtools.exasol.com

we are waiting still for AWS to enable the new instance types in our marketplace, what should happen within this day (when having it enabled the instance should show up under the offerings https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/seller-profile?id=95454cbc-000d-43da-823d-c6e99645d9be ).
