# Upgrade to Exasol 8. Tips for a smooth transition

During Exasol Xperience '25 in Berlin, I was on stage talking about Exasol 8 and what the upgrade will look like.

Along with @exa-Nico, we provided seven tips for a smooth transition from v7.1 to v8:

- Test the new optimiser (even on V7.1!)
- Update all drivers (TLS)
- Request the v8 license in advance
- Backup Bucketfs content
- Ensure DB and c4 versions are compatible
- Check password-less SSH connectivity
- Ensure file permissions are set (umask)
